Frogs and pastries in Heidelberg

On our recent trip to Germany, we stopped in the most wonderful pastry shoppe in Heidelberg. I have no idea what the name of the place was since everything was in German. It must have had something to do with frogs though because they had cute little frogs all over to decorate the place.

It reminded me of a post I wrote several years ago about eating frogs for breakfast. No, that's not a typo - it's a philosophy of getting the hard things out of the way first thing in the day. I abide by that mantra many days. I get up and get laundry going first thing because it's a dreaded task. Or I tackle something that has been on my list for a long time. Or I clean out a closet. It's great because I get something productive done first thing. It's also kind of lame because I often wear myself out on frogs and never get to the fun stuff.

Spending more than a week on vacation in an area that is much slower paced than the always open cities of America taught me that maybe I shouldn't always worry so much about the frogs. Yes, there is always a lot to do. But I might just look at my frogs a little differently from now on.

What if I tackle the fun "frogs" and make sure I get the big stuff done like documenting memories. Or even better... making memories. Life is too short to spend all of it worrying about how much we get done each day! It's true that it matters, especially with a job. It's also important to keep a household running smoothly. But I think more of the frogs should taste good.

Wouldn't it be great if we could just eat these for breakfast everyday?

Have I mentioned that I need to get back on my healthy eating plan now? Have I also mentioned that I really like German pastries? My mouth waters just thinking about them. Sorry.

Maybe the answer really is frogs for long as they are served in a cute little pastry shop!
