I left my heart in San Francisco

Well, I didn't really leave my heart there, but I sure exercised it a lot walking up and down all of those hills!

Our little family spent 5 days in San Francisco recently and we had so many amazing experiences. I can't wait to work on my photos and layouts from this trip! If you follow me on Instagram you have already seen a few of my favorite pictures from San Fran, but I thought it would be fun to share some with my faithful blog readers as well.

One of our favorite places we visited was Alcatraz. This was a new adventure for all of us and we thought it was very worthwhile. The island itself is very interesting and much prettier than I ever imagined. The audio tour of the prison was fascinating because it was narrated by former guards and inmates.

We did a lot of walking and our legs got quite the workout because of the many hills that the city is built on.

You need good walking shoes in San Francisco! My husband wore his Keen sandals. My kids both wore Brooks and I enjoyed my new Kuru shoes designed to help prevent heel pain. That has been an issue for me lately and these shoes really helped!

One of the big reasons we chose to go to San Francisco right now is so we could fit in a Hamilton performance. It was incredible! We also wanted to see all the regular tourist sites. My kids had never been to San Fran before and I haven't been there since about 2001 or so. My husband has been there a few times for work travel but he hasn't had time to do a lot of sightseeing during those trips.

We saw street art in the Mission District. We visited the Presidio, Lombard Street, Haight Ashbury, the Bay Bridge, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

We went to the Muir Woods and saw giant redwood trees.

We went to Sausalito, the Exploratorium, the Ferry Building, Fisherman's Wharf, and Pier 39. We also had delicious sourdough bread at Boudin and ate chocolate at Ghiradelli Square.

We felt like we really saw and enjoyed the city.

It's always amazing to be on the coast.

More than anything though, we just enjoyed being together!

Nothing like a pile of giggling family members on a hotel room bed. Great memories!
