Celebrating and documenting Easter

Easter Sunday is on the way this weekend and it also happens to fall on April Fool's Day so there should be plenty of fun photo-ops! My kids are grown and my daughter is away at school so we probably won't do too much to celebrate. We will definitely have candy though and I'm hoping we will be able to enjoy some spring weather.

Easter often provides for some fun and colorful photos with eggs, candy, flowers, and baskets. Traditions such as dying Easter eggs, egg hunts, Easter baskets, are worth documenting. Take the time to photographs these bits and pieces and journal about why they are meaningful in your celebrations.

Easter Sunday is a Christian based holiday that has deep importance to many people in the world. Don’t be afraid to include your religious beliefs in your scrapbook. They are a big part of who you are as a person. When scrapbooking about your own beliefs be genuine and honest about your feelings. Be careful to not put down other’s beliefs when expressing your own and you will find that people will respect your courage in documenting that which you find to be an important part of your life. Be sensitive to guidelines about photographing sacred objects as each religion views this differently so if you are not sure, it is always a good idea to ask.

Another widespread tradition is to have new clothing to wear on Easter Sunday. For little girls especially, wearing a brand new Easter dress and hat is a big deal. Record the details about the clothing chosen for this special day. Did you make or buy it, and how much did it cost? Why is it important to have new clothes on Easter Sunday? Even if you didn’t purchase new clothes for the occasion that can be an interesting topic also. Did last year’s outfits still fit? Was money tight? Or is this not a tradition or a priority in your life?

With everyone all dressed up and looking pretty, Easter is the perfect time for pictures. You may want to venture to your nearest photo studio or hire a professional photographer for some family shots. Don’t be afraid of being your own photographer. If the weather is nice, set up the camera outside and snap away. Don’t forget to photograph yourself, even if you have to use the camera timer to do it.

Don't forget that I have Easter and Spring themed pocket cards and printables in my shop if you are looking for some fun additions to gallery walls, table displays, or scrapbook pages!

Hope you all have a Happy Easter!
