Summer without a Bucket List
How about a summer WITHOUT a bucket list? That’s what I’m going for this year, and it’s a welcome change. Sure, bucket lists are fun to think up, but I always end up feeling like some sort of failure, because I can’t pull it all off.
You know what? Generations of children have been raised without having Pinterest-worthy daily summer experiences. I’m one of them. I grew up in a great family and I have plenty of happy memories, even though I never painted the sidewalks, slept out under the stars on a trampoline, or went on a scavenger hunt. I actually still turned out OK.
Don’t get me wrong… I think almost all of the ideas that come up for summer bucket lists sound amazing. I’ve even done some of them for my own kids and I would still like to do more. And I think we all know that I’m a HUGE fan of Pinterest. That’s not what this is about.
I just want to take it a day at a time right now. If that means that I end up having a midnight picnic on a mountain top, so be it. Most likely, it will mean that we have more “average” summer experiences. But that will mean that I’m a happier and more relaxed Mom, Wife, and person, because I won’t be getting caught up in all the details. I’m going to enjoy that.
So here’s to my summer without a bucket list! I hope you all have a more relaxing and happier summer than ever before - whether you have a list or not. Hooray for longer days and more sunshine!
