The value of looking back at the past month

I had a great time at Digi Night Out this weekend and it was fun to be able to share some of my designs and ideas with those in attendance. Most of the scrappers there were not familiar with my monthly roundup so that gave me the opportunity to explain the concept of wrapping up the details of each month in roundup fashion. This is something I have done every single month since January of 2006 and it is my single most useful documenting tool.

I don’t feel really ready to dive into a new month until I’ve done my roundup. Thankfully, I got the chance to finish up October!

I used the Project Life app + my 2018 monthly calendar cards + my This Month cards + a card from my new Halloween Fun set.

You don’t have to create a layout to do a roundup. There are many ways to recap the events of the past month.

  • Facebook post

  • Instagram post

  • List in journal

  • Word document

  • Bullet journal spread

  • Notebook entry

  • Blog post

  • Notes on a calendar

Have you used any other methods for doing your roundup? I’d love to know! However you choose to recap your month, you will be grateful that you took the time to do it. I can look up each month of my life for the past 12 years and tell you what was happening. That is so valuable for scrapbooking! But also just for life in general. There are so many times my husband asks me a question like “when did we go to Alaska?” or when did a certain event happen and I can always find the answer by going through my roundups. I’m so grateful for this habit!
