December Roundup Time

Goodbye, December! It is always amazing how quickly this month seems to pass. Between the holidays, the cozy moments at home, and the end-of-year reflections, December is one of my favorite months to document. It is the perfect time to pause, look back, and capture the memories that made this season special.

A monthly roundup is one of the simplest and most meaningful ways to reflect on your life. All you need to do is gather your favorite moments, add a few photos, and take a few minutes to record the highlights. Before you know it, you have created a snapshot of your month and a little time capsule you will treasure later.

I have been creating monthly roundups since January 2006, and it has become an essential part of my memory keeping routine. Looking back through past roundups always reminds me how many beautiful moments fill each month, even the ordinary ones. It is a creative and heartwarming way to close out the year.

What Is a Monthly Roundup?

A monthly roundup is a simple record of your life from the past month. It can be a few sentences or several pages. The goal is to capture your thoughts, favorites, and experiences so you can look back and see your story unfold over time.

You can create your roundup in whatever format works best for you. Some people prefer digital layouts, others use notebooks or planners, and some create blog posts. What matters most is taking time to reflect before a new month begins.

Roundup Prompts for December

Here are some helpful prompts to inspire your December roundup.

What did you watch? Include movies, shows, or performances that you enjoyed this month.

What did you listen to? Mention favorite songs, playlists, podcasts, or audiobooks.

What did you read? Share books, articles, or magazines that inspired you.

What did you learn? Reflect on lessons, insights, or new skills.

What did you celebrate? Include holidays, birthdays, family gatherings, or special achievements.

What was newsworthy? Record family milestones or world events that stood out.

Other ideas: Write about cozy traditions, favorite foods, travels, seasonal joys, goals, and moments of gratitude.

These prompts are ideal for scrapbookers, journalers, and anyone who wants to be more intentional about memory keeping.

How to Gather Your December Memories

Before you begin creating your roundup, take a few minutes to gather everything you will need.

Look through your calendar, social media posts, and journal entries to jog your memory.
Scroll through your photos for December to find meaningful moments.
Back up your images in at least two places so you can keep them safe.
Collect any keepsakes from the month such as cards, ticket stubs, or programs. You can scan or photograph them to include digitally.

How to Complete Your Monthly Roundup

Now that you have your materials ready, it is time to create. There is no right or wrong way to make a roundup.

You can make a simple list using the prompts above.
You might design a scrapbook layout or digital collage.
You can write in a bullet journal, notebook, or planner.
You might share a post on your blog or social media account.

If you share your roundup on Instagram, use the hashtag #roundupyourmemories so you can connect with others who are also documenting their months.

The more often you do this, the more you will see how it helps you appreciate the everyday moments that make up your life.
