March Photo Prompts: Capturing Moments in Time
March’s theme is Moments in Time.
This month is about paying attention to what your life looks like right now. One of the easiest ways to do that is with your camera. You do not need anything elaborate. You are not trying to stage a photo shoot. You are simply capturing what this season of life feels like.
If you want a little direction, here are some simple photo ideas to guide you.
Easy Photo Ideas for Moments in Time
Photo ideas for capturing Moments in Time:
• Your kitchen table exactly as it looked one evening
• The view out your window at a random time of day
• What you were wearing on an ordinary weekday
• A meal before anyone starts eating
• Your current favorite drink or snack
• The book you are reading right now
• Your desk or workspace as it really looks
• Shoes by the door
• A close up detail from your home
• A handwritten note or planner page
• A selfie that captures how you feel right now
These aren’t big event photos. They are “this is what life looked like” photos.
I have a March birthday, so that is a moment in time worth noting. I went to lunch with one of my dearest friends and she was so sweet to take a picture of me.
Look for the Ordinary
Photograph what your life looks like on a normal day. You will be surprised at how meaningful it can be to document the small details.
This is still a part of my everyday life right now as I’m healing from surgery. It’s been 5 weeks since I had prolapse repair surgery and I’m doing well, but I do still get sore, so ice packs and pain meds are my friends.
Let Your Photos Tell a Story
When you sit down to do your monthly roundup, these everyday photos will help you remember what March actually looked like. This month, let your camera capture those ordinary scenes. They might feel simple now, but later they will tell the real story.
It might feel silly to take a picture of something as simple as a protein bar, but it captures an interesting part of my story. I have Celiac disease and need to eat gluten-free. I have found that I need to always have a bar and a few snacks in my purse to get me through times when I can’t find anything safe to eat. I’m also trying to get more protein in my diet. These are pretty good and I like that they don’t get squished. The chocolate can get melty if you leave them in a warm area.
The way to remember
If something makes you think, I want to remember this, that is your cue. Take the photo. It does not need to be styled. It does not need to be shared. It just needs to help you remember.
I went shopping for my own birthday presents at the LEGO store. Super fun! I set out the packages to take a picture of what I purchased so I could send it to my mom (who also enjoys LEGO).
Where and how to use these photos
You can use a photo from each prompt, or just one that speaks to you. Add it to a scrapbook page, a journal spread, or your March roundup. Pair it with a simple line about why you took it or what it means to you in the moment.
I love it when restaurants serve food on colorful plates. It makes an order of tacos look festive. While I won’t be making an entire layout about these tacos, the photo will add a nice detail to my monthly roundup pages.
It’s hard to take pictures of yourself, but I’m trying to challenge myself to take more selfies and to get in front of the camera. I got dressed up for the first time in more than 5 weeks, so I figured it was a good time to snap a selfie.
A reminder
You don’t have to capture everything. You can keep this simple. One photo a week is enough. Even one photo total for the month is enough.
