How to make New Year’s celebrations fun and memorable

What do you do to celebrate New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day? We don’t usually do anything too major, but I kind of enjoy that. Our big focus is mostly on having good food to eat. lol! Since New Year’s is just a few days way, it seems like a good day for a blog post all about how to make New Year’s celebration fun and memorable!

Use themed decorations to set the mood and make photos more fun

Yes, the Happy New Year’s paper plates can be a bit cheesy, but they are great photo props and they get everyone in the mood to celebrate. I usually just pick some up at Walmart or even order online at Amazon. It’s worth it to get some silly party hat photos and have noisemakers to play with at midnight. I like to get something with the new year on it so that it helps take care of documenting the date.

Make the food part of the event

Most get-togethers involve eating so why not make food a part of the celebration? Finger foods and appetizers are perfect for New Year’s Eve because everyone can help themselves while they are doing other activities. I love to set everything out on a counter or table and add some party hats and a few festive printables for decoration. One of my favorite tricks is to sprinkle Hershey Kisses around the food to add some shine - and chocolate!

Include everyone in the fun

Even very young children (or very old adults) can be part of the celebration if you work around their needs. One of my all-time favorite New Year’s Eve memories was when we had a picnic in front of the TV with our 4 year old son and 1 year old daughter. We watched The Disney Channel and let them bang pots and pans at 9 p.m. and pretend that it was midnight. We celebrated with our kids like that for many years and it was always a lot of fun!

Take lots of photos

Pics or it didn’t happen, right? Seriously though, take pictures. You will forget the details as the years pass unless you have a photo and/or some journaling to remind you. Be sure everyone in attendance gets their photo taken and that they also get a copy of that photo. It will make everyone feel special!

Share the memories

Besides just sharing the photos with those in attendance, take some time to share YOUR memories. Document them on a scrapbook page, in a photobook, with a social media post, or in a journal. You will be glad you took the time to process and document the memories. It’s like you get to celebrate twice!

I happen to have just the thing…

I have some printables and digital scrapbooking supplies that will help you celebrate your New Year’s memories. The printables are easy to download and print at home. Just slip them into an inexpensive frame and you have instant party decor!
