The iPhone Noir filter is great for moody landscape photos
Noir (or noire) is the French word for black. An iPhone filter by the same name also creates the look of high-contrast, black-and-white film noir. I have to admit that I often forget about using native iPhone filters. I love playing around in editing apps after I take the shot, but I recently rediscovered that shooting with another filter can be a creative experience.
We spent last week in New Mexico visiting family and having some adventures. Unfortunately, it was cold, rainy, and snowy while we were there. If you've followed me for a while, you might chuckle because you will know that we always get rained on on vacation! It doesn't stop us, though; we still go on having fun. Oh, and check me out walking on uneven ground! It wasn't super easy, but I was able to do it. Yay for my new, strong ankle!
One of our favorite activities was a Jeep tour of the Diablo Canyon area just outside Santa Fe. The day was a bit gray and gloomy, but with the Noir filter turned on, my photos took on a more dramatic and exciting look.
It was fun to play Ansel Adams with my iPhone. I use an iPhone 12 pro, but this filter feature is readily available. For iPhone 13 series, filters can be combined, so I look forward to that next time I upgrade phones.
If you are wondering what these photos would have looked like without the Noir filter, here's an example of a picture I shot without a filter. Still very pretty, but it has a whole different feeling.
It can be a bit tricky to find the filter area in the iPhone camera app. So I made a short video with step-by-step instructions to make it easier.
Don't let a gray sky get you down. Instead, grab your iPhone and start snapping away with the Noir filter. It will make it all a lot more interesting!
