New book club selection - Steal Like An Artist

It's time to announce my book club's newest selection, and I can’t wait to talk about this book. I read it a few years ago, and it changed my entire outlook on creativity. It’s very short but really impactful. I hope you will join me in reading it and putting some of the ideas to work in your own life.

Why I chose this book:

You can probably finish this book in one sitting, so you might not think it is all that groundbreaking. However, if you are like me, you will find that as the ideas percolate over a few days, that you start to notice how useful the author’s advice is. Once I realized that I could take the bulk of the pressure off of myself about being creative, I instantly felt more ready to create!

I selected this book as part of my “curriculum” because it teaches you that creativity is easy to find and generate and that the process should be fun!

I hope you will read it through, and then really apply the learning by trying some of the activities.

Action Items:

  • Purchase or borrow the book How to Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon. I have both the Kindle version and the paperback. I love to have digital books to read on my iPad because I can mark them up and make notes. I also wanted the physical copy of this book to keep on my bookshelf full of creative inspiration.

  • Read by September 30th to keep up with the book club. However, you can follow any timeline that works for you.

  • Join the online book club and/or follow along here on the blog. You can even subscribe to receive blog posts via email.

  • Consider keeping a notebook or journal nearby as you read. I like to make highlights and notes in my Kindle app. This book is especially going to encourage you to take notes!

  • Do something (or many things) that you learned from the book. The best way to learn is by doing!

  • Share the ideas you learn about with others. Tell your family about what you are reading, post in the book club, or post some thoughts

  • If you have any thoughts you would like to share about the book, feel free to post in the online book club. Or you may enjoy sharing a review on Amazon or Goodreads.
