October Roundup Time
Goodbye, October! Can you believe the month is already over? You know what that means—it’s time for my monthly roundup!
If you’re new to the idea, a roundup is a fun and simple way to reflect on your month. Just jot down your favorite moments, add a few photos, and ta-da—you’ve created a little snapshot of your life. It’s like pressing pause and capturing all the best bits before they blur into the next month.
I’ve been doing these roundups since January 2006, and it’s become my most useful memory-keeping tool. It helps me remember the small, joyful things that might otherwise get lost. Once you try it, I promise you’ll be hooked!
What Is a Monthly Roundup?
A monthly roundup is simply a reflection of your life at the end of each month. It can be as quick or detailed as you’d like—just gather your thoughts, photos, and little life moments into one creative space.
You can do weekly or monthly recaps, depending on what fits your rhythm. I like to do mine every month because it keeps the process manageable and helps me stay consistent with my memory-keeping projects.
You can do weekly or monthly recaps - it’s totally up to you. I like to ensure I don’t go any longer than a month without recording these details, or it just gets too hard to remember.
Roundup Prompts for Memory Keeping
Not sure what to include? Here are some monthly roundup prompts to get you started:
What did you watch? (Shows, movies, theater performances)
What did you listen to? (Music, podcasts, audiobooks)
What did you read? (Books, Kindle, online articles)
What did you learn? (Life lessons, classes, new skills)
What did you celebrate? (Holidays, birthdays, milestones)
What was newsworthy? (Family updates or world events)
Other ideas: Share your joys, challenges, travels, adventures, health updates, goals, hobbies, favorite foods, or even funny memes that made you laugh!
These prompts work beautifully for both scrapbookers and journalers—anyone who loves to document life with intention.
How to Gather Your Memories
Before you start writing, gather your sources:
Review your calendar, social media posts, and journal entries.
Search your camera roll by month and year to find photos you may have forgotten about.
Pro tip: Make sure your photos are uploaded and backed up in at least two places so you never have to worry about losing them.
Collect any memorabilia—ticket stubs, invitations, programs, notes—and scan or photograph them to include with your photos.
How to Complete Your Monthly Roundup
Once you’ve gathered your memories, it’s time to put everything together!
You can:
Make a simple list using the prompts above.
Create a scrapbook page, bullet journal spread, or planner layout.
Write a journal entry with photos.
Or share your roundup on Instagram or your own blog!
If you post on Instagram, use the hashtag #roundupyourmemories to connect with others who are documenting their months, too.
The more roundups you do, the more you’ll appreciate this simple, meaningful way to document your everyday life.
