April Photo Prompts: Joy in the Everyday
April’s theme is Joy in the Everyday.
This month is a great time to notice what is already good in your daily life. One of the easiest ways to do that is with your camera. Don’t look for perfect photos, just pay attention to the small moments that bring you joy.
If you want a few ideas to guide you, here are some simple photo prompts to try this month.
Easy Photo Ideas for Joy in the Everyday
Photo ideas for capturing Joy in the Everyday
• Your morning routine or favorite start to the day
• A small moment that made you smile
• A cozy or comfortable spot in your home
• A favorite snack, drink, or simple meal
• A small win or something you finished
• A walk or time spent outside
• A moment of rest
• A message or interaction that meant something
• A detail from your day that felt good
• A selfie that reflects how you feel right now
This moment made me smile. My two year old grandson, loving a farm busy book that was a gift from his great-grandma (my mom).
Photograph What Feels Good Right Now
Pay attention to what feels comfortable or familiar in your current routine. Your favorite place to sit. A walk you take often. A meal you keep coming back to. The way your space looks during this season.
These photos help you remember what life felt like, not just what happened.
I’ve been going on daily walks with Jeff and Alex and they are patient with me as I stop to take photos along the way. This vibrant, violet lilac bush caught my eye. I love the color!
Capture Small Wins
Joy is not always big or obvious. It can show up as finishing something you have been putting off. Getting through a busy day. Taking time to rest when you needed it. If something felt good, even in a small way, it is worth documenting.
Take a photo of the finished project. The cleared space. The moment you paused and felt a little relief.
This might seem silly, but I saw this field of dandelions as I left a medical appointment, and I decided that the little girl I used to be would have loved to blow the seeds all over the place. I didn’t do that, but I did pull out my phone and snap some photos. Not only was it a pretty scene to capture, but it felt like a fun way to celebrate the hard work I have gone through to heal from my recent surgery.
Look for Light Moments
Joy often shows up in small, unexpected ways. Think about the laugh you did not plan for. A quiet moment where everything feels calm. A simple interaction that sticks with you.
You do not need to stage these. Just notice when they happen and capture them if you can.
Another photo from one of our walks. The sky was so blue, and the new leaves felt bright and green. I don’t ever remember having such an early spring here in Utah. It felt like a happy and light moment.
Notice What Makes You Smile
Start with the things that naturally lift your mood. It might be your favorite shop, or a spot in your home that feels comfortable. A pet doing something funny. A message from a friend that made you feel good.
These are the kinds of moments that are easy to overlook, but they are often the ones you will want to remember later.
This is a photo from my two year old grandson’s family birthday party. My daughter did such a cute job decorating for this party and we had a lot of fun with the theme of Two Fast, Two Curious. In fact, you should check my shop for a new collection that goes with this theme!
Where and how to use these photos
You can use a photo from each prompt, or just one that speaks to you. Add it to a scrapbook page, a journal spread, or your April roundup. Pair it with a simple line about why you took it or what it means to you in the moment.
I always have this small tiered tray on our kitchen desk and I change out the decor based on the current holidays or season. I felt bored with the items I usually use, so I went with something totally different and bought several lemon themed items on Amazon. It makes me feel happy!
Lemon items:
Wooden lemons (I might use the lemonade sign another time for a summer display)
Lemon curd (unopened, and on display now, but I plan to eat it after I change the theme)
Lemon infused olive oil (will go into my cooking oils cupboard when I change the theme)
Pepperlane Meyer Lemon on Fire jam - I bought this from my local grocery store. We love spicy jams served on cream cheese and crackers.
Lemon leaf candle - I bought a bigger candle of this same brand at my local grocery store, but this one would also be really nice
I already had the little white vase and flowers. I use them on many of my tiered tray displays.
Keep It Simple
You do not need a long list of photos this month. Even a few images can tell the story. If you think, I want to remember this, that is enough.
Joy in the everyday is not something you create for your scrapbook. It is something you notice while you are living your life.
